The Wealden Institute is dedicated to excellence in the field of professional development and training for the Psychotherapy and Counselling professions, and the provision of psychology services to individuals, families, organisations and the legal profession.

Joanna Beazley Richards, the founder and director of The Wealden Institute, is a Chartered Psychologist with clinical and forensic specialities, having Masters degrees in both. She is a qualified teacher and holds a specialist Diploma in teaching adults with learning difficulties. She is a Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst, a psychotherapist registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy, and a registered Independent Counsellor. She is a registered Expert Witness and a founding member of the Institute of Expert Witnesses. Joanna has been in clinical practice for over 30 years.

Our purpose is to:

  • provide an effective professional psychology and psychotherapy service in the interest of those in need of help
  • provide high quality training and development for individuals, groups and organisations
  • increase awareness of psychological processes and their effects, through research and information services
  • to provide professional assessments and informed opinion, through the scientific measurement of psychological processes, in response to legal or organisational needs
